Gyor to Vienna

Gyor Vienna

We are still confused between north and south - we get on the train - a lot of Americans - some Australians - off to Vienna - arrive in no time flat.

Off the train at one long distance station - how do we get to our apartment - be brave - use the underground - where is the underground? - pause confused - Bernie asks the Asian fellow in the shop at the station - answer - go up and then go down - we decided to follow the instructions to the letter - low and behold - a big blue sign with a large white U - now how do we get a ticket - I take charge - obviously a " one way" ticket is called a " half ticket" isn't it! - well no a " half ticket" is for dogs - we travelled on the underground as dogs swapping lines at least once .

We arrived safely at the underground station some where in the vicinity of our apartment - we are confused again - which way is north - where are we anyway -

Bernie again finds an Austrianised Asian fellow who comes out with his iPad complete with a Tom Tom application to point us in the right direction.

We find our way to the apartment - it was somewhat further than the 200 meters claimed by the owners.

We check in and wander the lcoal area looking for something to eat - battle a somewhat odd cornerstone for some provisions and then stop at a local cafe - order wine and toasted sandwiches - run into a local who gives USA run down on how to drive the underground and where to head for suitable restaurants.

Home for a nana nap promising to meet at 19:00.

This time we are seasoned travelers - as recommended by our local friend we buy a weekly ticket for about 10 euros and head off to Karlzplatz - past the museum - into the square - find a cafe - settle in - mistake - waiter rude and slow - food average - wine ok - traffic in the square chaotic - how do those bike riders survive?

Home tired but impressed with Vienna.
